One of the best things about working at the animal shelter is knowing that you are making a diffrence in the lives of so many animals. When they are lost, we help them find their families. When they are abandoned we give them a loving home until they find a new family. When they are sick we nurture them back to health. Another great thing about working at an animal shelter is the pictures and stories our adopters send us letting us know how the newest member of the family is doing. Here we would like to tell some happy "tails" about the cats and dogs who have found their forever families. Enjoy!

Lady (renamed Lucy)
Nap time with her new best friend.

Gone fishing with the family.

Lady with another new friend.
This is one of our cats, Motor. Motor was adopted by one of the workers for his daughter. As you can see they have become the best of friends!

Ginger (renamed Tilly) with a new friend "Pip"
Dear LCHS,
I just realized how much time I let lapse since we sent a photo of Tilly ("ginger", who we adopted last may), our walker mix.
She has really come out of her shell! She used to be somewhat timid around strangers (especially men), but now she walks down the street with her tail wagging the whole time. She even got so bold that for awhile she felt confident enough to steal food off the counter(2 sticks of butter, cooling christmas cookies, an entire huge calzone!)! Im hoping shes learned thats not allowed now (lets cross our fingers!).
She is just the sweetest, most gentle dog-so good with her little buddy "Pip" (from the Marathon County Humane Society) and the kids. Everyone that meets her just loves her and we have so many people comment about what a good/sweet/pretty/etc, ect dog she is! (And we always make sure to say she's from your Humane Society!)
Thank you so much for helping her come into our family-I wouldn't trade her for anything!
Sincerly,
Lara and my family

Dear friends at the Humane Society, I just wanted to write and let you know that Ozzie is doing great! He is happy living in Chicago, and he’s really happy now that spring has arrived and he can run around on the boulevard. Yesterday he got a new toy, a new collar, and had a bath. We went camping last weekend and he got nice & dirty (no ticks though). At first Oz was afraid of most things (people, other dogs, air planes over head, and especially city busses). Often he would growl at them, but after a month or so of socializing and settling in, Oz is now very friendly and trustworthy around grown ups and most other dogs. We are practicing being friendly with children right now. Ozzie's favorite activities include tummy scratches, bothering people when they try to pee, rolling in tall grasses and getting into bed with me in the morning while I am hitting the snooze button. He also enjoys barking at the drive through bank teller. Ozzie and I will be living in northern Wisconsin this summer and might stop by for a visit!

Dear LCHS:
It has been almost 8 weeks since we adopted Lady (now renamed Lucy). We cannot say enough good things about her! There isn't a day that goes by that my husband and i think or say to each other that we can't believe she was at the Humane Sociey for over 2 months and no one adopted her before we found her. We know that your job is sometimes very difficult and you probably don't hear enough praise of what you do, which is why I'm enclosing this note along with the receipts of her spaying procedure and exam, etc. We are truely grateful to you for taking such good care of Lucy before we found her.
I am also enclosing a few pictures so you can see how loved she is in our home. Lucy is very attached to our 2 kids and watches over them while they go off to the bus for summer school and waits for them to get home. She also watches them very intently while they play with friends at our house or our neighbors. She loves to wake them up in the morning. She is also getting along with our older dog, although Lucy wants to play rough and Jackie just isn't quite sure about that yet. After Lucy recovers from her spay surgery I am planning to take her to the local dog park to get her socialized with other dogs.
Lucy is quite enjoying family activities. As you can see in the pictures, she has already gone on a family fishing trip and we found that she likes to swim! It did not take her long to figure out she can nap in our bed during the day with Jackie. As I write this, she is recovering from surgery on our couch cuddled up with a blanket. We take her for 4-5 mile walks daily and she does wonderfully on the leash. She now gets excited when I put my walking shoes on.
It does seem that she may have had a bit of a rough life as she was deathly fearful and head shy when I brought a brush out. She has gotten use to my gentle touch though. We also found a few bumps on her, which the vet thinks are probably BB shot. They should be harmless but if they happen to form a cyst we will have them removed in the future. It is alarming to think that someone would shoot such a wonderful dog.
Thanks again for the care that you provide to all homeless animals but especially for Lucy.
We will be sending donations in the future. Please feel free to put me on you email list if there is anything specific you need or if you have any future fundraisers. We would be glad to help.

Roscoe

This is July 4th weekend where Roscoe was meeting the family members. This is our grandson, Jordan who is 12 years old. They claimed each other, as their own. Our grandson lives in Appleton so Roscoe is his when he visits. They truly bonded at first sight; who wouldn't love this blue heeler?!
Thanx for all you have done for 'US'

Hi…I wanted to write and let you folks know how Tokyo is doing in his new home. His introduction to my other dog (Snoopy) was a bit more difficult than I thought it would be. The first hour that he was here was pretty tense (for want of a better term). This was due to Snoopy’s attitude, not Tokyo’s. However, Snoopy is a great dog, and he’s very smart. He knows that I make the rules here, not him. All dogs want to have things their own way. My job was to make him understand that he did not have a choice in this matter. A little yelling, two or three little clips on the nose…nothing that would hurt him…I NEVER hurt my dogs…and he finally started to “get it”. When things got a little calmer, they did their “sniffing each other out” ceremony, and within a few minutes they were playing like they had been buddies for years. (God, I wish I had that much energy!!!). As of right now, after two days, they are just fine with each other. Tokyo has gotten used to his new surroundings, and he has already proven to me that he is going to be a great dog and a wonderful companion for Snoopy…and me.
I also want to thank all you folds, not only for being so nice to me when I came in looking for a dog, but for the work you do with animals who have had a rough time of it in their lives. Many of the dogs I have had over the last fifty-plus years have come from shelters, and every single one of them turned out to be great dogs, and more importantly, great friends. It has been a privilege for me to have been part of their lives, and I am very happy that I am able to give Tokyo the chance that ALL dogs deserve…The chance to be happy and above all loved.
I really don’t get to Antigo that often, but when I am in town, I’ll stop to say hello and give you an update on Tokyo and Snoopy and I'll bring a photo or two for your bulletin board. Thank you again for all your help and for the work you do. My very best wishes to all of you.
Sincerely,
Keith
